I run the Girls Exploring the Universe camp at the University of Virginia every summer, as part of my NSF education and outreach work (and also because it's tons of fun and really rewarding!) This a summer day camp on astronomy at McCormick Observatory for middle school girls, and includes a series of hands-on and inquiry-based activities.
Besides GETU, I am passionate about encouraging girls to see themselves as scientists while making science more equitable and fair for women and girls from all backgrounds. I serve on the leadership and board of 500 Women Scientists, a grassroots organization dedicated to serving society by making science more open, accessible, and inclusive.
Recently, I had a lot of fun participating in the 2017 ESTEAM for girls summit here in Charlottesville as a mentor and role model.
